UK passport photo maker
Digital photo for a UK passport application or renewal on GOV.UK. We crop your original photo to the official size and check head size, background and lighting. Nothing is uploaded.
Checking your photo...
- Check face, focus and lighting
- Replace background with white
- Fit to US size
- Verify every requirement
Face a window, stand in front of a plain white wall, hold the camera at eye level about 1 meter (3 feet) away.
Baby or child photo
Turn the photo so the head is at the top. Then continue. We skip face checks and you mark the chin yourself.
- Tips for baby photos
- Lay the baby on their back on a plain white or off-white sheet, or use a covered car seat.
- No other person (including hands) should be visible.
- Avoid shadows on the face and take it from straight above.
No-edit mode for US passports. The State Department says to submit the original, unedited photo, with no background changes or filters. We only crop and resize your photo, and check that the background, lighting and pose are right. If something is wrong, retake the photo.
Drag to move. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Arrow keys also move the photo (+ and - zoom). Dark or busy background? It is already replaced. Use Touch up to erase leftovers.
UK passport photo requirements
| Size | At least 600 x 750 px. We make 1200 x 1500 px. |
| Framing | GOV.UK crops the photo for you, so it shows your head, shoulders and upper body with space around them. |
| File size | Between 50 KB and 10 MB. |
| Background | Plain and light-coloured, in clear contrast to you. No shadows. |
| Editing | The photo must not be changed by software, so we only crop and resize it. |
| Printed photos | Printed UK photos must not be cut from a larger picture, so we do not make a print sheet for UK passports. |

No-edit mode.
United Kingdom rules ask for a photo that is not changed by software. We only crop and resize your photo, and check the background, lighting and head size. If the background is not right, retake the photo against a plain light wall.
