You see the old size, the new size and the percent saved before you download.

Make a PDF smaller in three steps

Pick a level or a target size

Balanced is a good start. Choose a target like "Under 1 MB" if a form has a size limit.

Frequently asked questions

How does the PDF compressor work?
Most large PDFs are large because of the pictures inside them (scans and photos). Light, Balanced and Strong re-encode those pictures at lower quality and size, and keep the text and vector graphics as they are. Maximum turns each page into one compressed picture, which gives the smallest file but removes selectable text.
Will the quality drop?
Light keeps quality very close to the original. Balanced is usually hard to tell apart on screen. Strong and Maximum are for when file size matters more than quality, for example a form that only accepts small files.
How do I get a PDF under 1 MB or 200 KB?
Choose a target size. We try Light, Balanced, Strong and then Maximum, and stop at the first one that reaches your target. If none does, you get the smallest result we could make.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
A PDF that is mostly text, or whose pictures are already small, has little to remove. Try Strong or Maximum, or compress a smaller number of pages by deleting pages in the PDF editor first.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Is it free?
Compressing and previewing the new size is free. Downloading the compressed PDF may need a small one-time pass, and the price is shown before you pay.
